This series came about as I was emerging from a creative block. Everything had begun to feel heavy - the world felt heavy, I found myself getting tighter and tighter in my painting, and I needed a little levity. So I began working on some new pieces with the intention of being playful, staying loose, choosing colors just because they appealed to me, or maybe surprised me, and not putting any pressure on myself to explore a deep or complicated idea.

Because I was working with a call and response approach the work took on a kind of stacked and layered feeling and that reminded me of the game rock paper scissors. Since I wanted to keep things light and playful I felt this was a good descriptor and the title stuck.

All paintings in the Rock Scissors Paper series are 11"x 15", acrylic and mixed media on watercolor paper, float mounted on a 16" x 20" mat board.

Thank you for your interest in my work!
