I chose to exhibit these five pieces from the Rock Paper Scissors series. This series came about as I was just emerging from a creative block. Everything had begun to feel a bit heavy. The world felt heavy, I found myself getting tighter and tighter in my painting, and I needed a little levity.

So I began a series of small works with the intention of being playful, staying loose, choosing colors just because they appealed to me, or maybe surprised me, and not putting any pressure on myself to explore a deep or complicated idea. Because I was being so spontaneous the work had a kind of layered feeling to me, call and response, call and response, and that somehow reminded me of the game rock paper scissors. And since I wanted to keep things light and playful I felt this title was a good descriptor.
