The work in the Allusions series lives somewhere between drawing and painting. I love the physical sensation of moving my tools on the paper, building up layers of paint and marks which come forward and recede, creating both a sense of history and a feeling of suspended time. There is an atmosphere of mystery and a vague narrative, like a piece of something half remembered, or the remnants of an early morning dream. As I work I wander the surface of each piece, a foreign yet familiar place, to catch a glimpse of what might be possible, explored, teased out. When I'm considering if a piece is done, I ask is it alive? Does it breathe? Does it dance?
